BPRS-DC to Celebrate Black Music Month with Music PR Executives

PR Executives share their real highs and lows of entertainment PR industry

WASHINGTON–The Black Public Relations Society of Washington, D.C. (BPRS-DC) is excited to announce a new strategic partnership with Bowie State University’s Advanced Public Relations Group (APR Group), a public relations student firm. The partnership will utilize seniors in the Bowie State University Communications department to assist with executing pertinent PR tactics to reach the media, stakeholders and targeted audiences. Designated members of the APR Group (Martell Pegues, Keiana Johnson and Tamara Bethea) will be under the direction of the Public Relations Director, Marc Banks.

“The Black Public Relations Society of D.C. is extremely excited to partner with Bowie State University’s APR Group. We believe that this collaboration will foster a strong relationship for students to gain practical knowledge about the nuances of public relations that you traditionally don’t receive in a classroom,” said Antonice Jackson, President of BPRS-DC.

The student group will help to increase BPRS-DC visibility among prospective members, stakeholders, and the press. Each student will bring something unique to BPRS-DC. “We’re looking forward to expansion across our digital channels, interaction with the media, and an in-depth analysis of what can be improved from these emerging leades,” said Marc Banks, Public Relations Director.

The Black Public Relations Society of Washington D.C. (BPRS-DC) was established in 1993 to unite and increase the participation and employment of African-Americans in the professional practice and study of public relations by providing educational and professional development, mentoring and networking opportunities, as well as creating alliances with other professional organizations and recognizing accomplished leaders and professionals in the industry. BPRS-DC has become the premier professional association for communications practitioners of color in Washington, D.C.

About the APR Group

Established in January 2011, the APR Group consists of members in the Advanced

Public Relations class in the Department of Communication at Bowie State University. The group is comprised of students in their junior and senior year under the leadership and guidance of the instructor. The students apply the skills they have learned through internships and public relations classes to achieve professional results. They work with clients in the Washington metropolitan area who have a need for public relations services.
